Gifted and Talented Education

"Benjamin Franklin, inventor of the lightning rod and, in effect, America’s first ambassador to Britain, once said that genius without education is like silver in the mine.

What I want to emphasise is that any seam of ability is precious, no matter how deeply it may be buried or how disadvantaged the child concerned. Failure to nurture ability and talent is wrong. It is a terrible waste, and all our education policies are intended to put an end to this failure."

Lord Andrew Adonis.
Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Schools.
Guoman Tower Hotel, London, 7th November 2006.
