Homework expectations

Homework is set to help students to become independent learners and to encourage them to be organised and self motivated, it also encourages them to meet and learn the importance of deadlines.

Homework demands and expectations vary between departments and the three Key Stages. The majority of departments set homework on a regular basis, which means at least once a fortnight. Departments will not set homework if there is no appropriate task or if, for example, lessons are cancelled. At KS4, all subjects set homework regularly. The guiding principle of homework is that it is relevant and can contribute to the development of new skills or reinforce, complement or extend students’ learning. It should be differentiated in terms of content and expectation and allowances should be made for students with difficult home circumstances.

The Sixth Form homework policy ensures that academic mentoring is implemented for students who fail to do homework. If the situation does not improve, other support structures will be implemented, including supervised ‘free’ time and weekly target setting.

All homework set – whatever the Key Stage – will be published in our on-line application 'Show My Homework'. This is visible to both parents and students and enables parents to see the type, volume and requirements for homework set. Show My Homework can be accessed via the link: https://www.showmyhomework.co.uk/. All students and parents are issued with a username and password by which they can acces their account.
