Course Content
You will study pure maths including extensive use of algebra, calculus and trigonometry as well as applied maths including statistics and mechanics focusing on how maths can be used to model the real world in order to solve problems. Mechanics overlaps strongly with Physics A-level whereas Statistics deals with probability, sampling data and statistical hypotheses which overlap with Geography, Psychology and Biology.
Exam board Edexcel
The final examinations consist of 3 two hour papers.

Paper 1 – Pure Maths marked out of 100.

Paper 2 – Pure Maths marked out of 100.

Paper 3 – Applied Maths including Mechanics and Statistics also marked out of 100.

Industry Links and Work experience
Previous students have completed work experience with a number of financial and engineering firms. The department is developing links with the local STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) network which can arrange gap year placements with STEM firms.
