Course Content

You will study many different aspects of society and acquire critical understanding of the sociological research methods to evaluate them. Areas of study include poverty and wealth amongst different social groups, welfare provision and the importance of work, unemployment and education, global developments like inequality, globalisation and population growth as well as crime and deviance, considering the different social, psychological and cultural influences.

Sixth Form entry criteria plus grade 4 in GCSE Sociology if studied and English GCSE Grade 5

Career Opportunities

The most obvious career directions are Nursing, Social Work and Teaching. However, students also go on to become lawyers, managers, journalists and police officers.  It is a very useful course for developing your understanding of society and facilitates entry onto many university courses.
