Environ (Eco - Club)

Environ (Eco Club) was set up in 2021 as a school response to growing concerns about our impact on the environment and climate. By identifying actions the school can take to reduce its impact and promote environmentally responsible practices we aim to become an Eco-school and attain Green Flag status.

A thorough environmental audit was carried out by students and an action plan for improvement was developed.

Our action areas were WASTE, ENERGY, BIODIVERSITY.

PROGRESS TO DATE:

  • Environmental audit completed and action plans developed
  • Orchard trees and hedge plants from the Tree Council planted in Y7 area
  • Successfully bid for ‘Copse in a box’ kit from Moor Trees to grow our own trees from seed
  • Wildflower meadow establishment on main school roundabout
  • Started mapping of main tree species on site using what3words
  • Single use plastic eliminated from canteen due to switch to new supplier
  • Sourcing of new recycle bins for school
  • Tree seeds (collected from the school site)were sown in spring and are now saplings ready to be transplanted
  • Year group litter picks were organised
  • Further hedging plants will be delivered and planted in Nov 2023

We submitted an application to be recognised as an eco-school and in June 2023 were delighted to be awarded the Keep Britain Tidy 'Eco-schools' green flag.

We plan further environmental action in this academic year - watch this space!
