3 Peaks Challenge Success

Tuesday 03 Jun 2025

Last Friday/Saturday student Heath and two of his younger siblings completed the national three peaks challenge in an amazing time of 22 hours 23 minutes (it’s estimated that only 30-40% of attempts within 24 hrs are successful so to do it comfortably is a huge achievement). He started at 4pm on Friday and reached the peak of Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest mountain just after 6pm and was back down by 8pm. Then it was a case of jumping in the car and trying to get some sleep before arriving at England’s highest peak, Scarfell Pike at 2:30am! There was no time to wait for it to get light, so the head torches went on and they set out in the dark.

Despite being the shortest hike, it was also the steepest and with already tired legs it was tough going. They reached the peak at dawn and were able to finally take in the beautiful Lake District surroundings on the way down. Again there was no time for waiting around, it was back in the car for the drive to Wales. The weather turned en route and, the final peak, Snowdon was climbed in the wind and rain. Heath says “It was really tough, not just the hiking, also the lack of sleep and driving as well. My legs are really sore and walking up and down stairs is painful. But the result and the money we’ve raised for my old primary school and the new astro pitches was well worth it”.

So far they have raised £1285, please follow the link below if you wish to donate.
