Holocaust Memorial Day is a national day that takes place on 27th January, commemorating the six million Jewish men, women and children murdered during the Holocaust and the millions more murdered under Nazi persecution.
As part of the National Year of Reading the National Literacy Trust hosted a virtual event with authors Tom Palmer and Ruth Barnett. Ruth is a Holocaust survivor, who was rescued by the Kindertransport at just four years old. Over 40,000 pupils throughout the UK participated in this event. During the event pupils behaviour was exemplary, they quietly listened with sensitivity.
Ruth and Tom's conversation was powerful but delivered with hope - Ruth spoke about the impact her university education had on her life and her desire for positive social change that would "create better citizens" which led her to her teaching career.
